Mission/History

As we enter an age of networked education, magnificent collections of high-quality, free educational materials are becoming available to the general public. Connexions is an excellent environment for distributed, open content development with the potential for contributing significantly to the body of open educational resources. The OSLO Group pays its highest respects to those visionaries who design, develop, maintain, and fund the many collections of freely available materials which so greatly increase access to educational opportunity around the block and around the world.

OSLO Group members believe that education is a fundamentally human endeavor, and that social interaction during the learning process is absolutely essential to the perceived and actual quality of students’ learning experiences. OSLO Group Director, David Wiley, explained, "Libraries evolved into universities for a specific reason. High-quality content is essential to facilitating learning, but so are the social activities of asking, answering, debating, arguing, and negotiating. The mission of Open Learning Support is to give additional educational value to existing open content projects."

OLS is brought to you by a great collection of committed people and partner organizations, using a variety of high quality, open source software products.
